Registration Now Open For 2015 Orillia & Lake Country Business Expo

Registration is now open for the fifth annual Orillia & Lake Country Business Expo, taking place in the Casino Rama Ballrooms on Oct. 22, 2015.

“This event has grown to become a tremendous success over the past five years,” said Ken Forbes, Chair of the Expo Organizing Committee. “Last year exhibitor space sold out early and we filled the venue with more than a hundred local businesses; we expect to do so again this year.”

The event is a collaboration of organizations supporting local business. Organizers include representatives from the Business Enterprise Resource Network, Orillia Area CDC, Orillia District Chamber of Commerce, City of Orillia Economic Development Office, Orillia Trim and Door, Township of Oro-Medonte, and the Oro-Medonte Chamber of Commerce, with the support of a number of other local organizations.

While the show remains one of the largest trade shows held at Casino Rama, space is limited. Vendor booths vary in size and cost, ranging from $150 for a table-top space to $250 for a large corner booth. Exhibitors must have a business location within the Townships of Severn, Ramara, Oro-Medonte, Chippewa’s of Rama First Nation, and/or the City of Orillia to be eligible to participate. To accommodate new businesses, shared booth registration is accepted.

“Not only is this a fun event for shoppers, it’s also a great networking opportunity for new entrepreneurs and small businesses,” said Laura Thompson, Economic Development Officer for the City of Orillia. “The show offers a lot of visibility for local businesses, but is extremely affordable thanks to the collaboration of the business community.”

The event would not be possible without the support of a number of sponsors, including Casino Rama Cares and the local Scotiabank branch, who will again host the Red Room Exhibitor Lounge this year. A limited number of sponsorships are still available until June 30, 2015.

This year’s Expo will take place from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Casino Rama Ballrooms on Thursday, Oct. 22. For more information about exhibitor registration and sponsorship opportunities, visit or contact Ken Forbes at 705-329-1084.

Gini Stringer Named Torchbearer in the TORONTO 2015 Torch Relay for the Pan Am Games

Courtesy of OLG, the Orillia District Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce that Gini Stringer has been nominated to be a Pan Am torchbearer in the TORONTO 2015 Torch Relay for the Pan Am Games.  A champion in our community, Gini embodies the characteristics of a torchbearer - community, celebration, participation and pride.

As a Pan Am torchbearer, Gini will help spread the excitement of the Pan Am Games throughout Orillia. She was selected for her extensive community support and dedication.

Gini Stringer is the personification of a “Community Champion”.

Gini and her husband Trevor, as owners of Sunshine Carpet and Flooring, have been the recipients of the Orillia Today’s Readers Choice Award “Best Flooring Store” for 15 consecutive years, the Orillia Packet and Times “Orillia’s Best” award for 5 consecutive years. They have been recognized nationally by the G.E. Shnier Retail Council as a “Diamond Dealer”.

Sunshine Carpet and Flooring is a proud community supporter whose charitable works include providing flooring to 4 areas of Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Couchiching Jubilee House, Comfie Cat Shelter and 4 Habitat for Humanity homes. They are major event sponsors to Streets Alive and Diva Day. Many local groups are also the recipients of Sunshine’s generosity. These include OSMH Hospital Capital Campaign, YMCA, Lions Oval Public School Playground, Orillia Santa Claus Parade, Canada Day Orillia, Kiwanis Club Auction, Rotary Club Festival of Trees, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowlerama, plus a host of golf tournaments and charity dinners.

In the past Gini has served on several community Boards including the Orillia District Chamber of Commerce and the Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital Foundation. During her time with the Chamber of Commerce she sat on a number of committees and served a term as President. She continues to sit on committees as a non-Board member. With the Hospital Foundation she was not only Chairman of the Board for a regulated 2 year term but also helped pilot their annual golf tournament and their Wine Tasting Gala. She was also involved with their Hospital Capital Campaign which raised 12 million dollars for OSMH. She continues to sit on this Board as an Honorary Member. Gini has also held a seat on the Orillia Economic Development Committee and the Terry Fox Run Committee.  Currently, Gini is an active member of the Orillia and Area Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee, The Georgian College Advisory Board, the Lakehead University Community Relations Committee, OSMH’s Clinical Services Oversight Committee, the Orillia Business Women’s Association and the Orillia Construction Association. She has been awarded “Business Leader of the Year” for 2002 by the Orillia Business Association, the Paul Harris Fellow Award (2009) from the Rotary Club and was Orillia’s “Woman of the Year” for 2014.

As a cancer survivor, Gini has also found time to develop the local “Look Swell, Feel Well” group, was a member of the Orillia Chapter Breast Cancer Support Group, and was trained by the Cancer Society of Canada to become a volunteer “Support Friend” counselling cancer patients on a one to one basis. Gini continues to visit patients and families who are dealing with cancer.

Gini is a proud mother of 4 children and a very proud grandmother of 6 grandchildren.

Through OLG’s presenting partnership of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Torch Relay, we are proud to have Gini Stringer represent our community as part of the OLG Pass It ONtario Program.
