  • Lead Hand Carpenter

    We are currently seeking a Working Lead Hand Carpenter & Estimator for a construction company that specializes in Island construction in Georgian Bay.

    Job Description Includes (but not limited to):

    • Experience with all aspects of construction from foundation and layout to finishing
    • Rough and finishing carpentry – floor beams & sub flooring, walls, roof systems and trusses, door, windows, roofing, siding (wood & vinyl), insulation, drywall, porches, decks etc.
    • Able to delegate work duties and assign tasks to a crew to which you will oversee the work schedule and progress on a daily basis
    • Ability to work independently and as a team to complete daily activities according to work schedule
    • Study specifications in blueprints, sketches or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required
    • Work with blueprints and/or instructions from Management
    • Responsible for blueprint reading, material takeoff's and ordering materials for all jobs in progress as required and according to a work schedule
    • Check work along the way to ensure it's up to O.B.C., specifications and quality
    • Must be knowledgeable of the Ontario Building Code
    • Ability to use levels, rules, framing squares and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and square
    • Co-ordinate sub-contractors when required – Ability to multitask
    • Ability to work under pressure, take on responsibility and meet tight time lines
    • Perform a variety of tasks involving physical and manual labour
    • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labour under adverse field conditions
    • Site visits to other job / work sites in progress, assist as necessary; or by telephone support
    • Site visits with customers and management as required (Saturdays if/when necessary)
    • Telephone calls with customers, management, suppliers, Township officials, designers, engineers etc. as required
    • Office estimating as required and necessary, along with preparation of all necessary permit applications
    • Ensure your daily crew has all proper safety gear required (hard hat, safety boots, glasses, etc)
    • Maintain a clean job site; pick up tools and equipment and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards
    • Work in accordance to our Health & Safety Policy

    Certificates & Requirements:

    • Valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card required
    • Reliable Transportation and Valid Driver's License required
    • Valid WHMIS certificate required
    • Valid Working At Heights training required
    • First Aid & CPR training required
    • You are required to provide your own common hand tools for the trade
    • You are required to provide your own hard hat, safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves etc.

    Hours of work are 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Thursday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm on Friday (some Saturday's as requested)

    • Two 15 minute breaks are provided (paid), one half hour lunch break provided (unpaid)
    • Weekly pay Overtime after 44 hours

    Job Type: Full-time

    Salary: $20.00 to $30.00 /hour
