    2. Orillia is home to Gordon Lightfoot. The music legend sadly passed away this past year, but it is clear to see the love Orillia has for their most famous son lives on. Walk or bike to Tudhope Park to see the maple leaf statue in his honor or the bust at the downtown Orillia Opera House. The Arts District currently has a Streets Alive installation as a tribute to his legacy.
    3. Live theatre awaits just a short walk from Port of Orillia at the historic Orillia Opera House. Take in a play or musical act while you visit the Sunshine City. See what's on and book tickets by visiting:  http://www.orilliaoperahouse.ca/en/Events.aspx
    4. Orillia has three museums that you won’t want to miss. The Orillia Museum of Art and History is located at 30 Peter Street South (easy walking distance from the Port) and you will want to sign up for their local tours for a fun night out. The Leacock Museum honours Stephen Leacock, a celebrated professor and author who had a summer home in Orillia and made the city famous with his collection of short stories Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town. (although in Leacock's works, the name of the town was changed to Mariposa, to protect the innocent- you'll notice many Orillia businesses and landmarks use this name today!) The family home, boathouse, and grounds now serve as a museum where you can learn about early 20th century life in Orillia. Ontario Provincial Police Headquarters are in Orillia and they have a museum on site to explore the past of policing.
    5. Festivals and Events abound. Orillia and Lake Country is known for its festivals and events. We are home to the Perch Festival, Mariposa Folk Festival, Boots and Hearts, Spring Boat Show, Mardi Gras in July, Port of Orillia Pirate Party, Scottish Festival and so much more.
    6. A very short ride to Muskoka, Ontario.   Many loopers arrange to rent a car and leave their boat in Orillia while they go check out the Muskoka area which is a 20 minute drive from Orillia and not accessible through the Trent Severn Waterways. Gravenhurst, Bracebridge and Bala, summer home of the rich and famous, are great day trips from Orillia.
    7. An 80 minute trip to Toronto, Ontario.  Some loopers have utilized Port of Orillia’s great positioning on the Trent-Severn and ability to drive back to Toronto to enjoy a major league baseball game, world class theatre or a day shopping and dining in the city. While Barrie is closer to Toronto, time in transit has Orillia your best bet to step on and off the Trent System. The Toronto International Airport is available if you have to head home to check in.
    8. Orillia has unique bike paths that link to the Trans-Canada Trail System and can take you to Barrie and through Oro-Medonte Township which is home to recreational facilities and agri-tourism attractions. You can even head to Midland for a preview of Georgian Bay.   https://www.ontariobybike.ca/150-itineraries-simcoecountylooptrail/
    9. Spend a day at the beach! Orillia has two amazing beaches: one located adjacent to the Port at Couchiching Beach Park, and the other accessible by bike/ walking trail at Tudhope Park.
    10. Our region has much more to offer, including golf, brew pubs, glamping, and zip lines. Orillia & Lake Country has everything you need.   Check out https://www.orillialakecountry.ca/ for tourist information and special event listings.
