The Perch Festival is a longstanding Orillia tradition and is known as Canada's largest fishing derby. Each spring, anglers of all ages and abilities arrive at the junction of Lakes Simcoe and Couchiching in hopes of catching a tagged perch.
The festival was set to celebrate it's 40th anniversary in 2020; however, plans were derailed by the pandemic. For 2021, precautions have been put in place to allow the 40th anniversary celebration to go ahead as a physically distanced event. We have enlisted Snapd Media to create an app that will allow anglers to submit photos of their catch each day that they fish. With each photo submission, the participant has a chance for an instant win ("tagged fish") and also receives an entry in the daily, weekly, grand prize, and bonus draw. To facilitate physical distancing, we have expanded the fishing area to include all of the water bodies in Simcoe County.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford has issued a province- wide Stay at Home Order requiring people to only go out for essential purposes. In the best interests of our community we have made the tough decision that the Perch Festival will be delayed to reflect the Stay-At- Home Order. The Festival will begin the first Saturday following the lifting of the Order. As soon as we have confirmation from the Provincial authorities, we will update this page with an exact date.
In the meantime, you can still register and download the app. Anyone registered a week before the start date will qualify for the Early Bird Draw.
The Perch Festival Early Bird Experience is now available on the Snapd HUB App, which is available now for free download on the App store.
